How do you go on a first date with someone you’ve known for most of your life? Virgil had been asking himself this question for days now and in the end he just decided that there was no first date.
There was just time.
They needed time.
So he arranged for some.
He had been off duty for quite a few weeks with his injuries following Kayo’s capture and rescue. With some quick words, he had convinced Scott to extend his leave to include a few days extra where he and Kayo could get away from the island and spend some time together alone.
To find out what comes next.
Scott had squeezed his shoulder momentarily before drawing him into a quick hug. No words were said other than “Take what you need.”
So he had arranged for a long weekend on the coast of New Zealand, in a historic lighthouse of all places.
It sat on a rugged cliff, as lighthouses were wont to, staring out into the angry Southern Ocean. He had brought enough supplies to last the stay, There was a wood fire to keep them warm and three hundred and sixty degrees of scenery.
He could stand on the top most ring balcony for hours, the cold wind biting into his face, tossing his hair, and reminding him he was alive.
And still breathing.
